What is a Doula?
The word Doula comes from the greek word meaning woman servant, helping with the emotional and physical needs of a woman (and her partner/husband) in labour/during birth and after birth too.
Essentially, a doula is focused on mothering the mother, after all mum needs looking after too.
About me
My name is Helen Arundell. I live near Winchester, Hampshire. I am married and I have 4 children.
After the experience of giving birth to my twins (babies 3 & 4) I received alot of help and postnatal support from my family, friends, midwives and a wonderful student from Eastleigh college on work placement. Although it was really hard I was able to come out the other side (there is light at the end of the tunnel!
As a result I want to to be able to help with baby or babies and support other new parents who are expecting a baby or 2! whether it is your 1st baby, 2nd or 4th we all need help and support and to be told that we are doing a good job.
As a post natal doula in Hampshire my doula services will include help and support for you in the first few weeks after having your baby/babies, enabling you to get back on your feet again. I can come as often or a little as you like this doula service can be tailored specifically to suit your personal needs
I can help & support you with feeding your baby/babies, with which ever chosen method of feeding you decide upon I can cook meals and snacks ~ mums often forget to feed themselves
I can do light housework which can take the pressure off you if you are having guests or simply just want to spend time with your new baby/babies
I can look after baby whilst mum catches up on well earned rest
I can help out with other siblings
My aim is to be able to support you and your family helping you make informed decisions so that you are always in control, I will be non judgemental and supportive at all times.
Doulas are not medically trained and will always point you in the direction of your health care professionals if the need arises.
