Benefits of having a Doula

Fact: Six weeks after the birth, mothers who had doulas were:

          .    Less anxious and depressed
  •  Had more confidence with baby
  •   More satisfied with partner
  •   More likely to be breastfeeding

Fact: Research from "Mothering the Mother" Klaus, Kennell & Klaus, (1993) has shown that having a doula supporting you during the birth process gives
       25% Shorter labour
        50% Reduction in a caesarean
        60% Reduction in epidural request
        30% Reduction in analgesia use
        40% Reduction in forceps delivery

*No other interventions that have been introduced and experimented with over the last 30 years have had such success in systematically reducing the rate of caesarean sections and leading to better outcomes for mother and baby. 11 randomised controlled trials, most of them in hospitals where women normally have little or no emotional support, reveal that companionship by another woman during labour results in mothers needing fewer pain-relieving drugs and having fewer instrumental deliveries and caesarean sections and babies are in better condition at birth too.

We all have busy lives and from time to time circumstances beyond our control arise, poorly children or extreme weather!
This  is why I also have a back up Doula called Lieske  who can also assist my mums incase I am unavailable.
